One of the best things about Steam is that you almost all of the best games are available there. But isn’t it a bit sad that you can say very little about that with Android’s PlayStore?
You can find amazing Twin-Stick Shooters with thousands of daily players like Soulstone Survivors or Enter the Gungeon. Sadly, almost none like these in the PlayStore — till I recently discovered this hidden gem called Roto Force.
Roto Force is a weird game. It takes some time to get used to. Once you do, it’s amusing and exhilarating. The game developers Antony Klinger (Accidentally Awesome Games) and PID Games are the masterminds behind this game.
To give you a slight description, you’re stuck within four walls and can move or dash around it with one stick. With the other stick, you can fire different types of ammunition.
I’ll be reviewing Roto Force in this article. Feel free to judge whether it’s your cup of tea or not.
What are Twin Stick Shooter Games?
You have heard of various shooter games like Call of Duty, Fortnite, PUBG,etc. These are some of the most famous shooter games in the world right now. But what exactly is a twin-stick shooter?
Twin-stick shooters are a sub-genre of Shooter games. Here, you’ll get two joysticks to play with. One joystick will help you move around, and the other will help you blast away at your enemies.
How Is Roto Force Android Game?
To be very honest with you, the game felt a bit uncomfortable to me at first. I felt claustrophobic and a little unsteady because of the quick motions between the closed walls.
But thankfully, they ease you into it all, and it becomes much quicker to learn. Let’s get into a detailed Roto Force Android Game Review, shall we?
Style and Humor Level of Roto Force
Trust me, you’re in for an absolute treat as far as the style and humor of roto force goes. Roto Force has a retro theme with amazing character designs.
Not only that, all of the bosses and characters are really funny. Each level has a unique design. One time, you are in a jungle, another you’re fighting some weird monsters.
The controls and the concept remain the same, but every level’s design differs vastly from the previous one. You’ll never feel like you’re playing the same level over and over. It’s a retro-style game, but the movements are incredibly smooth.
Gameplay Review of Roto Force on Android
Before we dive deep into things, let’s look at some of the level designs of the game.
As you can see, all of the designs are cool, but you may wonder how the gameplay actually works and plays out.
Roto Force Android Game Level Design and Enemies
You play as a slug. It’s weird, but okay. You dash around inside a square-shaped box for most of the game. In some boss battles, the level design changes, and the shape of the level too.
How Good Are Roto Force Boss Battles?
In the early part of the game, you are running away from birds, penguin-ish creatures, and sometimes even fish.
The boss battles take place in a nest and the whole scenery changes. That way, you can mentally prepare yourself that it is not a drill and it’s time for war. There are even various spawns that will prevent you from dashing from one place to the other.
All of these are just from the first few levels. You will experience even more as you keep continuing the game.
How is the Overall Difficulty of Roto Force Android Game?
Does all of these details sound like a lot? Well, it kind of is, but the game isn’t too difficult. There is a good balance between the difficulties. Unlike Dark Souls, this game wouldn’t beat you up with every single wrong move.
You will have a lot of leeway, but don’t let it get to your head. The boss battles are a bit difficult and will require your full attention.
There’s so much visual chaos going on in each level, it never gets boring. Each type of enemies a different color, each level design is a different shape, and the variety of enemies is crazy, too.
Visual learning in Roto Force is crazy fun and never loses your interest.
How Good are the Weapons in Roto Force Game?
If you’re a lover of versatility and weapons, Roto Force will never disappoint you.
You will be getting a plethora of weapons in this game, and they aren’t all temporary. The game will give you a new weapon after some levels to keep things more interesting. You’ll be getting more than enough time to figure out the learning curve.
Your main weapon is Rapid Fire. There’s nothing to learn about it really. You just keep blasting away at enemies.
In the first few levels, the weapon is more than good enough. The enemies don’t have a lot of HP (Hit Points/Health).
Secondly, you get a Homing Shot. It’s a bit slower and doesn’t hit targets with a shield. Although, it does a hell of a lot of damage to normal enemies and bosses.
Ricochet Shot will take a bit of time to load. When it does, you’ll get cool disco-like devastation. The lasers will be bouncing off of the walls and destroying every single enemy nearby.
On another note, you also have Bombs in this game. Just hold down on the trigger button, and it’ll release a bomb that’ll bounce around for a little bit before exploding.
Surprisingly enough, these are not all. I wasn’t joking when I said this game is freaking crazy and over the top.
There are even more weapons and attacks like Electrical Charge, Helix Shot, and Flame Whip. Yes, you heard me right. A flaming whip.
Things That May Turn You Off
Yes, the game’s absolutely crazy, right? There are plenty of things to do in this game and everything’s VERY fast. You can find yourself getting a bit overwhelmed at times with the number of enemies and changing around the weapons.
Another issue I personally faced is that it can get a bit difficult to get back into after a break. It took a bit of time to learn it all again, but that’s something to keep in mind. It’s Not Free: You can download the demo and play a few levels, but the full version of the game will cost you around $5.
Saving Roto Force on Android is Very Easy
Talking about taking a break, if you do end up leaving the game for a few days, don’t worry. There’s auto-save in the game. The moment you turn the game off, all of your progress will be safe and secure.
You can jump right back in and start from where you left off. The implementation of save slots is something I sincerely appreciate. I can make various different saves on different levels. That way, I can play older levels if I ever feel like it.
Roto Force is Getting Updates and New Content on Android
It’s a bit sad when you love a game so much, and it has an ending. Thankfully, Roto Force is still getting more and more updates.
With every few updates, they introduce new features to the game. Be it more levels or performance/gameplay enhancements. You’ll keep getting more and more out of this game.
My Last Words
Playing Roto Force on Android for this review was a bliss for me. Let me tell you, it never fails to amuse me. Roto Force has the perfect balance of difficulty, creative gameplay, and the funkiest art style, and people of all ages can play it. Overall, it’s safe to say that it’s one of those rare games you can randomly find and hardly seem to let go of.
